The most comprehensive collection of vintage Gibson mandolin records ever assembled will be web-enabled in October, 2003 when a web site created by Dan Beimborn launches with a yet to be revealed domain name.

The initial collection will include over 2,500 vintage Gibson mandolin family instruments constructed between 1900 and 1945. Each instrument will be listed by serial number, specifications, owner comments and color images when available (over 4,000). Included together for the first time are the records collected by Darryl Wolfe in his F5 Journal and the entire lifetime records of Stan Werbin and Frank Ford. Ongoing contributors also include Stan Jay, Lowell Levinger, Larry Wexer, Charles Johnson, and many others. As part of the long-term plan for the web site, users will ultimately be able to document their own vintage Gibson instruments within the database. Lloyd Loar era mandolins will be but one of the highlights of the database and prior to launch there are already 262 of those listed, many with images.

The project was inspired by a long-time interest in vintage Gibson mandolin family instruments. All programming for the project was handled by Beimborn with assistance from his wife Elena Beimborn for the site design.

Startup costs, server fees and ongoing general support is being provided by the Mandolin Cafe. Additional support for this project is provided by Gibson Original Acoustic Instruments Mandolin Division and Darryl Wolfe's F5 Journal.
