The 2006 Mandolin Symposium has opened their registration and is providing another exciting line-up of instructors led by David Grisman and Mike Marshall. This year the Symposium will be held June 26 through July 1, 2006 on the University of Santa Cruz campus in Santa Cruz, California.
The purpose of the Mandolin Symposium is to expose students of the mandolin at every level to the diversity of music and technique that has developed over the past few hundred years throughout the world and here in America.
This year the instructors will be David Grisman and Mike Marshall along with Mike Compton, Tim O'Brien, Don Stiernberg, and master builder, Mike Kemnitzer of Nugget Mandolins who will be teaching advanced building skills for Mandolin Symposium luthiery students.
2006 will also include a new feature for the students. Each day the Mandolin Symposium will be offering a Visiting Scholar including Sam Bush, Andy Statman, Hamilton de Holanda and Evan Marshall. These visiting instructors will attend electives on their day to add their expertise to the topics for that day. They will then each present an evening workshop for all the students followed by a performance. The evenings will then move into the organized jam sessions that are becoming such a great feature of the Mandolin Symposium.
