The Tulsa State Fair in Tulsa, Oklahama announces the addition of a Mandolin Championship contest in its 33rd year of holding one of Oklahoma's premier fiddle contests. Also on tap for the first time will be a Guitar Championship contest.
The Junior and Adult division fiddle contests will be held Saturday, October 1. The following day the Mandolin State Championships begin at 11 am. This will be a two-round competition with five finalists chosen from the first round to continue to the Championship round. They will play two tunes in each round and may have one accompanist. The winner of the Mandolin Division State Championship will be awarded $500. Sunday the Oklahoma Flatpickin' Guitar Championships are also held with a similar format as the mandolin contest with the winner awarded $500 prize money.
