Peghead Nation, Roots Music Instruction and more

Fairfax, Calif. — Peghead Nation has announced a special Deering Goodtime banjo and other prizes as part of their celebration as the newest destination for roots-based music education on the internet.

Peghead Nation offers 18 online String School instruction courses for all skill levels, taught by master players, along with gear info, news and reviews, blogs and more.

Co-founded by respected musicians and music-media experts Dan Gabel, Scott Nygaard and Teja Gerken, Peghead Nation gives musicians opportunities to improve their skills, gather instrument and gear insights, keep up with roots music news and reviews and join in discussions with instructors and fellow community members.

Course subscriptions are available at monthly and annual rate levels; the rest of the site content is free (each course also includes one free sample lesson). Instructors include such renowned artists as mandolinists Sharon Gilchrist and Joe Walsh (managing director of Berklee College of Music's American Roots Music program), banjo great Bill Evans, dobro master Mike Witcher, fiddlers Brittany Haas and Bruce Molsky and Grammy-winning guitarist Nygaard.

"We want to give our students the best instruction available, as well as information to keep them inspired and entertained even when they aren't studying their instruments," Gabel says. "We know that learning to play is only part of feeling connected to the music community."

To introduce players to Peghead Nation's courses — all streamed in high-definition video — the site is offering a free first month of lessons for one course. The Spring Tune-up special, available through April 15, can be activated using the promotional code "spring" at checkout. Peghead Nation is also celebrating the impending, not-a-moment-too-soon arrival of spring — and outdoor playing weather — with a drawing for a Deering Goodtime banjo and other prizes.

In addition to the banjo, the Goodtime Giveaway grand-prize winner will receive a one-year all-access pass to Peghead Nation, including all course content. A second one-year all-access pass will be awarded to the winner of the D'Addario Strings package. Five other winners will receive D'Addario string sets and a one-year subscription to the instructional course of their choice. And yes, all prize packages definitely include wearable swag. Entry deadline is April 15; the drawing is May 1. No purchase is necessary for entry.
