New York, N.Y. - Registration is now open for the 13th annual Carlo Aonzo Mandolin Workshop to be held April 5-7, 2013 in New York City.
Aonzo, known as one of the greatest classical mandolinists alive today, has a deserved reputation for warmth, patience, and extraordinary teaching skills. He is devoted to teaching and spreading the Italian style of mandolin ensemble playing.
This workshop provides consistent instruction and guidance from Carlo Aonzo with additional rehearsal led by assistant conductor Mark Davis, under Carlo's supervision. Once your registration and payment is completed, you will receive music and part assignments. This year's program will feature music by JS Bach, CPE Bach, Corelli, Calace, and a contemporary piece by the great composer Jonathan Jensen.
Participants are expected to master the music before we come together to form an orchestra, so register early to get started! This workshop is geared to intermediate and advanced mandolinists. Mandocellists and mandolists are especially encouraged to attend!
An optional Thursday afternoon session will include a new class on the "whys, hows, and whens" of shifting. Technique and "design" of shifting will be explored using pieces by JS Bach and Calace. This music will be distributed in advance. This session is aimed at mandolinists.
Friday through Sunday are devoted to orchestra playing culminating in an informal performance Sunday evening.
A few private lessons will be offered on Thursday before the workshop and the Monday after.
A limited number of spaces are still available. If you are interested you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. You will receive your workshop music and parts assignment as soon as your payment is received.
