Bar Harbor, Maine — Blues mandolin great Rich DelGrosso joins the staff of Guitar Intensives Mainely Guitar Week (guitar, mandolin, ukelele, dobro) held August 7-13, 2011 at College of the Atlantic (COA).

Geared for beginning hobbyists to professional players, Mainely Guitar Week offers workshops in Acoustic Blues, Contemporary Acoustic, Folk/Pop, Swing and Bossa/Samba.

COA is perched on Frenchman's Bay, five minutes from beautiful Acadia National Park in one direction, and five minutes from the bustling town of Bar Harbor in the other.

A mid-day break enables students and faculty to take full advantage — from a ride up to Cadillac Mountain, a popover at Acadia's famed Jordan Pond Restaurant, kayaking on Frenchman's Bay, to a swim at Echo Lake. Significant others are welcome!

Evenings will be filled with jams, concerts, plus a not-to-be-missed Jug Band Party with Rich Delgrosso — for all instruments and levels!

Rich DelGrosso is widely regarded as the leading exponent of mandolin blues. According to author/historian Mark Hoffman, DelGrosso is "the greatest living blues mandoman, the best since Yank (Rachell)." For over twenty years DelGrosso has written articles for Blues Revue, Living Blues, Mandolin Magazine, Frets, and Sing Out! and he has published instruction books on mandolin for Hal Leonard. He has presented workshops on mandolin across the country, earning him a Keeping the Blues Alive Award from the Blues Foundation in Memphis. He has also garnered 5 Blues Music Award Nominations for both Instrumentalist and Best Album of the Year.

He is joined for the week by an all-star cast of performers and instructors that include John Miller, Orville Johnson, Del Rey, Ernie Hawkins, Martin Grosswendt, Shawn Persinger and Weslea Sidon.

"Being involved with music in this spectacular setting provides participants with an opportunity to recharge their batteries from the stress of everyday life as they learn new skills and connect with others who share their passion," said Alice Schiller, Founder and Director.
