New York, N.Y. - Registration is now open for the 11th annual Carlo Aonzo Mandolin Workshop to be held March 24-27, 2011, in New York City.
Aonzo, one of the greatest classical mandolinists alive today, has a deserved reputation for warmth, patience, and extraordinary teaching skills. He is devoted to teaching and spreading the Italian style of mandolin ensemble playing.
What makes this event special? Other workshops expose you to several instructors and various different styles of music. This workshop provides consistent instruction and guidance from a single expert (note: one and a half hours each day are led by assistant conductor Linda Binder under Carlo's direct supervision).
After your registration and payment are received, we will send you sheet music and part assignments. This year's program will feature pieces by Bach, Vivaldi, Purcell, Falbo, and contemporary composers Victor Kioulophides and Elizabeth Start. Additionally, a piece by Stefano Squarzina will be read in an optional Saturday evening reading session.
Participants are expected to master the music before we come together to form an orchestra. Registering early provides more time to prepare. This workshop is geared to intermediate and advanced mandolinists. Mandocellists and mandolists are especially encouraged to attend!
- An optional Thursday afternoon session will include a new chamber music class as well as Carlo's renowned Exercises and Techniques class.
- Friday through Sunday are devoted to orchestra playing culminating in a public but informal performance Sunday evening.
- Friday evening offers an opportunity to see Carlo perform in concert at the acclaimed NYC chamber music venue, Barge Music.
- A few private lessons will be offered on Thursday before the workshop and the Monday after.
A limited number of spaces are still available. If you are interested, you are encouraged to register as soon as possible. You will receive your workshop music and parts assignment as soon as your payment is received.
The workshop will be held at Chelsea Studios, 151 W. 26th St., New York, NY 10001. Click red map pin below for driving directions.
