Grass Valley, Calif. — The Mandolin Cafe is proud to sponsor an evening concert and series of workshops on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 connecting a break between the California Bluegrass Association Music Camp (June 14-17) and Father's Day Festival (June 18-21).
This is the second year the Mandolin Cafe has partnered with CBA to present this special event.
The evening begins with one-hour workshops by Roland White and John Reischman (mandolin), Paul Shelasky (fiddle), Jim Nunally (guitar), Mark Schatz (bass), and Keith Little (banjo). All these people will be teaching at music camp, and also playing at the festival. The workshops will be geared to the high intermediate level.
After the workshops there will be a dinner break with entertainment by two more of our music camp instructors, Bill Evans and Bill Amatneek, who will provide an exciting new look at an old bluegrass form, the bass and banjo duo.
Roland White and John Reischman will follow with the CBA Camp Bluegrass Band (same personnel as above) to play a set featuring twin mandolins front and center, so all you mandolin players and fans, don't miss it!
The evening ends with a Jamming 101 session with Sid Lewis, who will also be teaching at camp.
These events are intended both for music camp students who are sticking around for the festival, and also for festival attendees who arrive early. All are welcome to attend, and it’s free! Dinner will be available from Blue Sun Catering, and beer from Vern’s Beer Garden. Sit at your picnic table, enjoy a delicious lasagna dinner, have a beer, and get in some fantastic pre-festival entertainment!
CBA's Music Camp and Father's Day Festival are two of the largest bluegrass events sponsored by the California Bluegrass Association.
