Mike Compton Mandolin Camp - Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. — A two-day mandolin camp with Grammy winner Mike Compton will be held March 13-14, 2009 at the Grant Street Inn, an award winning 24-room bed and breakfast Inn located in the heart of charming Bloomington.
Though the curriculum is still being fine-tuned, this will be unlike any other Mike Compton workshop in that it will be conducted in a moderator/instructor format. Mike will not focus on repertoire as much as reconciling creativity with technique and improvisation. One phrase Mike is using for this workshop is musical "rules of grammar."
Friday evening will be a brief meet and greet with Mike following by a jam session. Friday is not mandatory, but it is helpful to attend as this will be an opportunity for you to meet your fellow campers and let Mike know what you want to learn. It'll also give him a chance to assess skill level and adjust the instruction accordingly.
Saturday, the workshop will be from 1:00 - 5:30 p.m. with breaks. After dinner, there will be music in the workshop space. Participants are encouraged to bring along a guitar or other instrument if they wish.
Workshop fee is $125 per person, and early registration is strongly recommended as a sell-out is anticipated and space is limited. To reserve your spot, contact Jim Richter at (317) 319-9299 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Housing: The Grant Street Inn has offered a 50% discounted rate of $89 plus tax per room per night. You are not required to stay at the Inn, but it's strongly encouraged to fully enjoy the experience. The Inn is beautiful, the breakfast is first class, and the informal music will be a blast. Rooms are available for Friday, Saturday, or both nights.
