    Default New Andy Statman Album

I saw today on the Jewish Music list an announcement for a new Andy Statman album, due to be released Oct. 22, 2013. It's called Superstring Theory, on Shefa Records, and features the Andy Statman Trio with Tim O'Brien and Michael Cleveland. Based on the Amazon samples, all the tunes are mandolin based and, needless to say, over the top brilliant.

    Hot potatoes!

I stumbled across this video the other night - and i was wondering just what part of something it was connected to - but you just might have answered that question somewhat.

    Sweet!

I saw this group perform at Rockygrass this year. It was every bit as wonderful as you would expect it to be.

Agreed. To my ear, any style he plays is instantly more interesting than anyone else's playing. It's a personal taste thing, of course, but he's my go-to guy when people want to hear what can be done with a mandolin, especially the Old Brooklyn cd. The snips of this one have me equally enthusiastic.

Anyone got the lowdown on Andy's 2 pointer in the clip? Sounds fine, but thereagain anything sounds supreme in his hands! The best mandolinist on the planet, no-one better in my view!

Isn't anyone gonna chime in and say they're playing too fast? Sounds great except it was hard to hear little Timmy O'Brien.

Whether you slow your roll or mash on it, enjoy the ride.
