Just curious to why folks aren't posting the IBMA and bluegrass related threads in the bluegrass section of the cafe.

One word: traffic. More people browse the "general mandolin discussions" than any of the others, so these darn bluecoats and their Quartering Act tend to occupy the main thread for more discussion possibilities and colonial conquest. Only a matter of time before the non-bluegrassers dump large tubs of popcorn into some random Kentuckian backwoods river in protest.
There's no one subgroup that's guilty of this, though; I'd be surprised if the "looking for info on mandolins" category ever got any of those "looking for X under $Y00" threads.

Well sir, i posted one of those IBMA threads right here in the general mandolin discussions - and my reasons?
First, the story of Mr Steffey winning (yet another) prize had featured on the front page of the cafe here, which nudged the topic in the direction of a general discussion.
Second, the congratulations Mr.Steffey thread, already set a precedent by being posted on the general discussions page - and though i had a question related to it, i thought it more fitting to post it in a new thread so as not to be disturbing the congratulations thread.
Third, not being a 'bluehaired'-bluegrass enthusiast, i had no idea just how exclusive or known the IBMA is - for all i knew it was something like the Emmys - and so i thought it a general enough topic.
Fourth, at the time of posting there was not the glut of bluegrass posts in the general section as there is now _ so it did not seem excessive at that time.
Fifth, apart from classifieds, i have never known the cafe to be incredibly strict in enforcing the placing of posts... unless it made sense of course.
Sixth, it appears the Bluegrass section also has a healthy dose of new IBMA threads too - so apparently as awards they do indeed seem to have been effective in promoting (if not the artists) then themselves.
Seventh, quite a few participants on the cafe have a interest in mandolin playing, in general - an interest that crosses genres.
Eighth, i'm just happy that its not another Thile thread - that man should have his own dedicated section
(Seriously though, as a subject he has a nasty habit of being introduced into most any thread - just like he has done again here)
Ninth, if there is enough traffic and new threads they will quickly dislodge those Bluegrass threads - so, random reader, if you want more variety on the fornt page, get on your topic generating hat and start creating points of interest.
Tenth, in my opinion, tis better to post and participate than to lurk... so it's all goog.
I suppose some people think Bluegrass is universal. "If you can play Bluegrass you can play anything".
Eleventh: wow.

Ralph has finally seen the light. Shazzam! ;- )
When I come on the forum I first look at "new posts", which is across all sections. I don't notice what section something is in till I check.
Yes they should :
"This area is only for those discussions that don't fit into other predefined mandolin categories."
It would be nice if people had the manners to respect that.

If they need to be moved, Scott is smart enough to let people know where they can go to find them , so to speak.
That doesn't look quite right but, you know what I mean
I agree it is all goog! Actually it's gooder than goog!
We all know what you meant, and early hour writing is tough on anyone, my French spelling would be ghastly early in the morning, or late at night. Most of the time really.
You make your point just fine spelling or not, keep on doing it!

I thought he actually intended "goog" -- lingo for google perhaps?...actually more apropos, wherein, it may be debated whether this or that is good or bad, but it is most certainly google-able

Well, on the bright side - at least this thread is getting very general - very fast
It would be in Lexington, maybe. Fescue, rye, no, I like my rye in a glass not my lawn. Zoysia on the other hand.....
Now it needs to be sent to the agricultural threads, roots?

Shouldn't this thread be somewhere else? I know I should.
