So this is Chris Eldridge (Critter) he is the guitarist in the band Punch Brothers. He uses an ATM350 condenser mic. but does anyone know what hes using to hold it in place?? Thanks!

It might be a tie clip mic mount slipped over the edge of the sound hole; the type used for lavalier mics (which the ATM 350 resembles when it's taken out of the gooseneck mount and windscreen). It's a little hard to tell from the photo.

Personally, I prefer the DPA 4009 with its carpenter jack style mount for guitar, reaching over the bass-side bout near the neck, and pointing about halfway between the soundhole and edge of the guitar. It sounds more natural, and less boomy than right at the soundhole (especially on a dreadnought). That's what we use with my partner's guitar in our duo. But what Chris is doing here has a lower visual profile for the audience, and probably a few db more gain before feedback.

Look in his ears and you'll see some gear that really helps with gain before feedback!

Good point! Another advantage with that position (aside from GBF) might be less bleed from nearby instruments. He is in a group with a banjo player, after all.
