Here's the Wikipedia article on DelVecchio instruments. Pretty sketchy, but it has some links that might be worth following. The DelVecchio website's apparently in Portuguese, so good luck there unless you're fluent.

You probably know already that it's Brazilian made, and that DelVecchio made a variety of resonator and non-resonator instruments, including banjos, six-string and twelve-string guitars, and "Latin" instruments such as the cavaquinho.

No idea how to go about getting a manufacture date for it; DelVecchio's been around, apparently, since 1902 or some such. Resonators were introduced in the 1920's, so not earlier than that.

Best bet is probably to search vintage guitar websites, where the DelVecchio resonator guitars seem to pop up frequently. Might be some serial number info there. Or not.

I realize this is many years later: IÂ’ve recently acquired a del vecchio tenor guitar and would love to have a del vecchio mandolin. Anyone know of one for sale?

I have a non-resonator DelVecchio of the typical Brazilian bandolim shape (see below). There is someone in the want ads also looking for a resonator version.

I don't know too many of the mandolins that made it over to the US—more of the guitars, —but if you are willing to buy from Brazil there might be some for sale there. I believe that the company is still in business. You might have to look at Brazil's version of eBay: Mercado Livre.

Actually here's a resonator mandolin on Mercado Livre for under $1000USD. I don't know if the seller will ship to wherever you are (I assumed the US).

Thanks Jim. That's me looking for the del vecchio in the classifieds. I'll follow up on the Mercado Livre tip. Do you or any other forum users have experience using Mercado Livre?
    Best, Michael
