    Default Wishnevsky mandocello?

    Hi!

Does anyone own or have any thoughts about the Wishnevsky mandocello?

There have been a couple of threads already about the one at Bernunzio if that's the one you're curious about. I have never played one or seen one but others have said the following: They can have a pretty good sound and represent a good value but you have to get used to the unusual look (kind of looks like something in a Picasso painting), the fit and finish can best be described as "rustic", and the assymetrical construction impedes access above the 7th fret. Hope this helps.

Harrison Withers has one, he's here on the cafe....

I think the usual answer is, having a Wishnevsky mandocello is better than having no mandocello. But personally, I would have Walt at Gypsy's Music make you one (NFI-- actually, I guess he's a competitor. But most of us don't make enough money to worry about stuff like that). The fit and finish is great from what I've seen, they are real, properly intonated, serious musical instruments. And they don't cost that much more than one of Wish's trippy creations.

The Wishnevsky mandocello sure has a unique look, The Gypsys mandocello sounded really great!

There's a Wishnevsky resonator octave on eBay right now in case anyone is interested.

With the long neck it could double as a bed-warmer...

Wishnevsky Maple Resonator Solid Body Mandocello, Loud and Sweet on eBay.

Previous one there sold for $202. Be interested in hearing about these in case someone here made the purchase.

I bought the used Wishnevsky from Bernunzio. Check the CBOM forum here at mandolincafe.com for some posts....
