Default Choro das Tres US tour May-July 2013

For those interested in the fabulous sisters’ trio Choro das Tres from São Paulo, they are just beginning a US tour (late May – early July). Dates are on their website: http://www.chorodas3.com.br/#%21__english. They are currently in Hampton, CT. The website shows concerts and workshops over the next few weeks in Woods Hole, MA; Framingham, MA; Cambridge, MA; Chicago, IL; Madison, WI; Marquette, WI; Seattle, WA (Choro Festival); Port Townsend, WA; Olympia, OR; and Victoria, TX.

I don’t think the list of bookings on the trio’s website is complete, as I know they also have bookings in CA and in Austin, TX. They will be instructors at the Mandolin Symposium in Santa Cruz, CA from June 24-28, 2013: http://www.mandolinsymposium.com/ins...chorodas3.html. In Austin they will have a workshop and concert on July 7, 2013: http://www.amandolinorchestra.com/.

It would be impossible to overstate the incredible talent of these young women. I look forward to seeing them in Texas.

If I can get a complete touring schedule, I will post it.

My wife and I saw them last night in Hampton, CT. An absolutely superb concert, as authentic as it possibly could be.

This updated information is just in from David Isenberg. New York area music lovers - you have 4 remaining chances to hear this amazing group before they return to Brazil. As a large Memphis audience will readily agree - this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don't miss them!

    *****************************************

Choro das 3 is winding up its 20-state 10,000 mile
US tour with a series of shows in the northeast.
    Here's their remaining schedule:

July 18 NYC (Brooklyn), Barbes (back to
    back w/ Andy Statman)
    http://barbesbrooklyn.com/calendar.html

July 19 Cos Cob CT House concert,
    paula@isen.com, 917-881-8983

July 20 NYC House Concert, Jim Kendrick's
    place, jimkend@gmail.com

July 23 NYC Metropolitan Room (w/Howard Alden &
    Jeanne Gies)
    http://metropolitanroom.com/show.cfm?id=99754&cart

If you don't know Choro das 3, the band consists
of three sisters and their father. Corina, 25, plays
flute and piccolo. Lia, 23, plays 7-string guitar.
Elisa, age 20, plays mandolin and also clarinet,
banjo and piano, and she's been composing wonderful
music since she was 9 years old. All three sisters
are monsters on their instruments. They have
studied at the feet of the masters of choro.
Eduardo, the dad, plays pandeiro. On their recent
USA tour, with stops in Boston, Chicago, Seattle,
San Francisco, Austin and Memphis, they garnered
full houses and standing ovations everywhere they
went. At the Mandolin Symposium in Santa Cruz two
weeks ago, convened by mandolin greats Mike Marshall
and David Grisman, with 120 mandolins in the
orchestral grand finale, "little sister" Elisa
    earned the Concert Master's seat.

Absolutely must see! I did a workshop with them in Seattle and then the Mandolin Symposium in Santa Cruz which was fabulous. The highlight of the week in Santa Cruz for me was a late night (till 3am??) choro jam on the last night of the Symposium. Magical!

Saw them last night in house concert in NYC. Wonderful playing and nice, energetic arrangements of choro tunes along with explanations of what this music is about. Their playing is superb -- it is nice to hear virtuosic flute, piccolo, and clarinet playing along with the bandolim and 7 string guitar. Stylistically they are different from Dudu Maia and his group who I have seen a few times but equally enjoyable. They have lone more gig in NYC then back to Brazil. But they will be back in 2014.
