Default Little Prelude for Solo Mandolin

A short, repetitive little prelude I've written to help me practice basic chord shapes on the mandolin (coming from a violin tradition I haven't really thought too much about playing chords !) - nothing special but reasonably melodious, I think. I might possibly use it as a basis for something more substantial

For the double G note at the start, do you press both second string at the third fret and the 3rd string at the fifth fret, and release one (which one though) after a semiquaver, carrying on the other for a dotted minim, or maybe, just play them consecutively like a quickened appogiatura?

Just looking at it as a noob and trying to work out the fingering at tortoise pace lol. If its a silly question, please just ignore me or upload the first three notes of Jingle Bells to get my head around

Otherwise its a fail for me at the first note :/

Cobflute: There are two voices. Imagine one person singing the the notes with the stems going up and another person singing the notes with the stems going down. In the first measure the latter person would be singing the g for the whole measure. When this is done on a mandolin, reality dictates that you hold the g for the whole first measure (you don't have to play it in two different places) while the top voice (stems up) moves along.

    Gaaahhh...,

my brain is full. Thanks - it makes sense but I still don't know what to do.

How would a solo mandolin player finger these two voices?

Sorry, I've written it as I want it to sound, but for all practical purposes, forget the 'second' part (with the stems going down) and just play the 'tune' (stems going up most of the time) but keep your fingers held down in the chord position and it should work ok.

I also note that some of the computer-generated tab is slightly wrong, so here's an updated copy of the score.

    Hope that helps
