Thread: Ukecaster for my kids

    Default Ukecaster for my kids

So... this is a toy mandolin / ukelele thing I made for my kids. It's got a solid cherry top, solid cherry back and sides, and a curly maple neck. The frets are machined right into the fretboard.

It sounds like a shoe box with some rubber bands on it. But hey, the kids can't complain... I designed it to be quick and easy to make, and it only took me a year and a half to make it. So there.

I will save you the agony of hearing it, though really it's not that bad. Just kind of like a cheap uke tuned GDAE. I used classical guitar strings to get the tension right.
    And, it looks hilarious.

I love it too. I love the pickup shaped sound holes

How'd you get the cool stamp on there... a stamp?

    It looks really fun.

Thanks everyone. The eagle decoration is machined into the top.

Actually, I was originally going to sell the parts as a kit so dad and kids could build them together. It's just three parts, top, back, and neck. You have to shape the neck. Could be fun.

If anyone wants the CAD (free), let me know. I am distracted by other things right now, like building real mandos. Glad you all liked it, though.
