No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.
When I first read the title of the thread, I figured I'd much rather be killed by what I love than by what I hate.

Well said.
Seeking fame and fortune and acceptance from other featherless bipeds is as old as civil society, perhaps older. But I think paradigm changing art is created despite the response of the culture.
In the past one would talk about a debt of hard work owed by those with extraordinary talents, i.e. your talent, if great enough, belongs to the world. I am not sure if anyone bought it then either.
well since were on a life philosophy thread now
adn i have neither scotch nor cigar or leather chair clouding what little thought i have
the simple thing i believe-is that regardless of natural talent-
the more you do something the better you are at it, and
often, better than those with talent but neither drive nor discipline, and imho most important, perseverance
a person who is committed is very often, way above the average in performance-
and i also believe that sometimes the person who believes they are better at what they do, actually is better, they set higher standards for themselves against their peers
not genius, not insprired, but just really good and competant/professional
be it a handyman, plumber, lawyer, doctor, the person checking out your groceries, musician or some of those amazing folks who sing on the Voice-often hard working, long time semi pros
and while an unhappy thought, a totally a different approach to 'you can be anything you want' (or whatever variation pleases you), and one from my very very old school law professor,
"you can learn to love something you dislike greatly if you do it long enough"
what a depressing idea, but in my life i have found this to be true-you work through drugery at times and it no longer is, you work through conflicts and adversarial things, and become comfortable with the stress and the situation
sometimes there is great satisfaction from being competant, consistent, steady, and having one's place-
not exactly 'soar like an eagle' but 'plod like a turtle'
one approach conjurs images of glory and self determination, the other being a bit more zen, and finding the flow that fits
now wheres my scotch? lol
I think this is called the Stockholm syndrome.
