    Default The Occasionals

Just a quick thanks to The Occasionals for a sterling performance last night at the Inveraray Accordion and Fiddle Club's final session of the year. Freeland (accordion and dubious vocals!), Kevin (tenor banjo and resonator tenor guitar) and Gus (drums) performed to their usual very high standard, and in the words of a local paper from a few years ago "The capacity crowd filled the hall to overflowing"!

Hope the journey home to Edinburgh was less traumatic than your circuitous route getting to Inveraray, lads.

    Thanks again.

It was great to see you John, its a pity I didn't realise you were there earlier, as we could have had a longer chat at the break. But grand to catch up nevertheless. Freeland had a brand new mini pa with him, which made life much more easy on stage than usual, as there is often no foldback, so it was much easier to hear each other last night. Gus is pretty loud! Anyway we thoroughly enjoyed the crowd and got home late but safely. Good to let you see the tricone too, its a lovely instrument. And thank you for coming all tha way to see us, its very flattering indeed - we could have done a floor spot together if I'd known - next time!
    best wishes, Kevin

Wow! The big "serious" press have you on file now too! impressive stuff. And to think, here's little me who knows and corresponds with the famous and much-publicised Kevin Macleod of the Occasionals. The stuff of dreams, indeed.
Congratulations, on a serious note, and are you buying Tanera Mor?

Tanera Mor??..............as in the Summer Isles??

I vaguely remember seeing the Occasionals in Ullapool about ten/twelve years ago.
I say vaguely, because it was either a wedding or just another Saturday night in Ullapool.
In any case Mr Barbour was there, not sure if Kevin was with him.
As I recall they brought the house down.

LOL as Davey Cameroon has it! Well our gig fees aren't quite up to the level of a Hebridean Island at 2.5mill, more like a wee tidal lump with some dulse .... and a sea urchin or two!

Ullapool 2000 ish? yes I'd have been there - started with Freeland in 1986 - was that Fiona Mackenzies wedding in the Ceilidh Place perhaps?

Next week it'll be a full page spread in the Sunday Post, John!

Yes, Tanera Mor, the main island of the Summer Isles, onto which my great great grandfather Murdo Macleod was "cleared" from Badentarbat in Coigach (sheep were preferable to people) in 1828, and where my great grandfather Hector Macleod was christened and raised until the 1840s. Both I and the groom at the wedding are direct descendants of that man, so it was great to return and celebrate a family wedding some 170 years later! And cock a snoop at the "duine mor" - they haven't got rid of us yet!!

Well we can hardly give them away, such a riotous success that was! There's a veritable "Braes of Badentarbat" cd mountain in Achnahaird! I've got a load of nice new material and ideas for a new cd one day, but its hard to know when, how or even why! Luke Plumb might be over in Scotland at Christmas so we might just go and do something, anything ..... just for the hell of it ...

Great set, Kevin. Two folk who are well used to playing together and it shows! I loved the patter too before you began playing, and the throwaway comment from Ali about the box getting a letter from the Queen.
Tricone sounding great and the balance is excellent with the two-row.

Hi Kevin, my daughter handed them over to me on Saturday but only now I have the first chance to listen to them. Until yesterday I was in the Alps for some walking and climbing, ropes and all that stuff.

Ali " Beag" Macleod "The Sands of Achnahaird"

    Kevin Macleod "Dorney Rock"

Kevin Macleod and Alec Finn "Polbain to Oranmore"

    Kevin Macleod "Springwell"

Ali " Beag" Macleod and Kevin Macleod "Braes of Badentarbat"

Kevin Macleod and Luke Plumb " Live"

I love and enjoy every little bit of it. That's my music. A very fine example how scottish should be played by the three of ye.

Folks, you can't go wrong with these if you like this kind of music. For me, I this is a fine chance to learn, not only new tunes but also the correct picking.

    Thanky again, Kevin.
