Thread: Lloyd Loar Book?

    Default Lloyd Loar Book?

Does anyone know if there are any books about Lloyd Loar? I am interested in knowing more about the man and would love to read something on the subject. Also any good non musical instruction mandolin focused books would be great as well.

    Thanks, Joe

This is a good resource. Roger Siminoff is a Loar historian. He even owns Loar's mandolin.

There is some really great reading on Llyod Loar on Roger Siminoff's website. Go to www.siminoff.net. Once there look on the left hand side of the page. You will find a link to info on Llyod.

Roger has always been very generous with any and all information about Lloyd Loar and pretty much anything I have ever asked him about. Great guy!

If there is, it should come in a mandolin case.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers this (or even better, has a link) but there was at one time a panel discussion about Lloyd Loar and it was fascinating. I believe Roger Siminoff was a panelist (among others).

I want to say it was a part of the annual mandolin event that used to occur out West but I might be mis-remembering that.

Loarfest West...... a part of SuperGrass. It was a nice smaller festival that lasted two years in Bakersfield, CA Numerous Cafe members were there. One in particular even showed up in a Nudie suit, complete with mandolins all over.

Thanks to SternArt for providing the name of the event.

The Cafe has a page devoted to the panel discussion

But why would the "F5 Pimp" be holding a guitar? Just doesn't make sense Tom...

    Where's the mandolin?!?

The photographer just happened to catch me coming off stage after doing a Country show in which I played the electric guitar. I also play the EM200 in the country shows but it just wasn't in my hand at the time. I probably should re-take a photo holding the F5 the suit was patterned after but I sure get lots of questions about the vintage '51 Epiphone Zephry Deluxe Regent.
