I was listening to an old tape of the Grand Old Opry and Oscar popped into my mind. Kinda of a poor man's Homer and certainly not the superb musician but I remember them with fondness from my youth.....nice A50 he has...

Looks like Lonzo and Oscar. "I'm my own Grandpa" was their song. I saw them at the Opry in 1973.

There were at least three Lonzo's over the years. A piece of mandolin history likely forgotten by today's generation (and perhaps for good reason....)

    actually i think....
    i like this
vocally they're really tight, and entertaining
and let remember that there was a time when it was all 'hillbilly'

i think its really swing, as lonzos solo would fit right in a louis jordan tune

and, i know where hee haw gots its roots
had no idea this schtick was so deeply rooted

and given the not so long ago floods down south, his pants look downright sensible to me..LOL

I just found what looks like an autographed copy of a Lonzo and Oscar record at my local record store for $4.

Homer and Jethro make a brief joke about Lonzo and Oscar on their live 'At The Convention' album.

I have been collecting records for 45 years; I don't have too much trouble coming across the occasional Homer & Jethro album, but in all that time I have only seen 1/2 of a Lonzo & Oscar record; (jacket with no record inside).

I used to have their classic ”give me an RC cola and a moon pie and play maple on the hill”. A wonderful 45.

I didn't know they did that song - I remember having a 78 of it by Hank Williams' buddy; Big Bill Lister . . . .

My father used to sing their classic "Moving On" when we were kids. He would sub in our names for the "cream of wheat" and "washing machine" verses.
