    This is the latest Elkhorn just off the work bench Tuesday. It's been strung up for forty eight hours now and is really starting to come alive. The pairing of the Red Cedar sound board and the exotic woods really sound exceptional together. Attaching a few Pictures and an mp3 for you all to check out. Enjoy! Mango III.MP3

    Absolutely beautiful work -- and it sounds as good as it looks too! Congratulations! I am a believer in the "lore of the Loar" but red cedar is a greatly under appreciated top wood I think. Cedar really puts out the tone and projection. What is the back and side wood?

    You do gorgeous work;
    I like the side-bound effect on the peghead and the full-foot bridge.
    Very nice, indeed.

    Oh my goodness. I've been browsing your site for a while and have been restraining myself from indulging in my severe case of MAS, but when you post photos and sound clips like this you make it so difficult! I've got my eyes on F-5 #31. That's a beauty right there. I can already feel my pocketbook getting lighter...

    Russ, I clicked on the blue link which brought up a box asking to choose an application with which to open it, and I chose iTunes. It loaded into my iTunes library of songs. I'm running Snow Leopard. I hope this helps.

    Thanks Cheryl.
    Are you using Safari? When I click on the blue link, it downloads. When I click on the download, it sends me to a page with html gibberish. Grrrr

    Found an old thread. Guess the issue is with Safafi. If I download, drag to desktop, and remove html from name it will play.

    Bernie, It is Mango. It's a native Hawaiian hardwood that's very prevelent in the islands. I learned about it on Maui when I was hunting for Koa. This is the third F-5 I've constructed with it pairing it with the Red Cedar. It's a great combination!

    Beautiful mandolin but now I have "Underneathe The Mango Tree" from Dr.No (James Bond and Honey Rider) stuck in my head.

    Wow. We had two enormous mango trees in our backyard in Darwin in the 60s. Loved the fruit but had no idea about the wood.

    Outstanding! That is one beautiful mandolin, both aesthetically and tonally! Really, really dig the sound of this one.

    Very, very nice. I think the satin finish really works on that instrument.

    It just looks "pure" for want of a better term, since understated elegance was taken. the wood looks great, but it doesn't draw the eye from the elegance of the form. and it sounds great
