    Default Tom Mindte's Loar

I got to see Tom perform at the hardware store in Waynesboro, PA last evening. Outstanding Loar....loud, clarity and good sound on every note. Good band, too.

It is a wonderful mandolin. That was my favorite Loar for a while, then I "discovered" one that belongs to another friend of mine that I like even better!

Crystal clear, and he did some good Buzz licks and some Monroe licks. Bill might say it's a powerful good'n.

Bob and John....I played that Loar right after tom bought it and at that time it didn`t show me much but I know Tom liked it and he must have gotten it set up since then if it sounds crystal clear now...Yes Tom can get on those Buzz Busby licks, I have done some jamming with him and he would twin with me and I really enjoyed that, I haven`t seen Tom for quite a few years now and will have to look him up and see what that Loar has got now....

Tom told me he didn't really like it much when he got it and played something else most of the time, but he decided to give it the playing time it deserved (paraphrasing) and after a while it "came around" to the sound it has now. It has power, balance, response, pretty much everything we look for in an F5.

Picked that one at last Galax. It smelled like a cigar.

I think what you were hearing was Tom's right hand attack on the Loar, not the sound of the Loar. Tom is a Monroe style power hitter on his right hand.

I've played that Loar, one of my favorites out of the one's I've gotten to try so far. Of course I never heard it when it was new, so I have nothing to comment on there...
