    Default Rob's Mandolin Set-up eBook

Just got this today from Rob.

Add me to the ever-growing list of people that are bowled over by it.

Wonderfully thorough while being incredily easy to understand. Even I can follow it!

To say this is a welcome addition to my knowedge base for the mandolin would be an understatement.

And the book is FREE! What a generous man!

ROB MELDRUM - THANKS!!!!! It is incredible!

I absolutely agree with how well Rob's book is written. It is a must have for anybody not totally familiar with mandolin set-up. I may never try to set up a mandolin from scratch like Rob did, but the e-book would certainly be in my hand if I ever decided to try. I will use it, however, to validate the set-up on my Loar...thanks Rob!

+1 on this. Just got Rob's ebook the other day, and it's well put together, and easy to understand. Helps that he used the same mando I'm getting for demonstration purposes, too. Many thanks out to Rob for his hard work and generosity!

I got the book very shortly after I requested it, I had to wait a few days to assemble the (pretty basic) tools to do the job and following the instructions has made a great increase in the playability and intonation of my instrument. I have a mandocaster so some of the instructions about adjusting the bridge don't apply but those that did really made a difference. I'm sure that many have felt that setting up a mandolin is like solving a Rubik's cube, a slight change here changes so many other things - and correcting those throws other things out of whack so it can seem to be a loosing battle. The book demystifies all of that, I now know what the string heights should be (and where) - which are a lot lower than how the instrument was supplied! The strings are fixed, the intonation is fixed, all in all it's a miracle in a pdf. If I had one criticism it's that it doesn't explain that harmonics can be used to ensure that each course of strings is perfectly in tune although to be fair that's only really possible to do on an amplified instrument - and of course some would say that slight discrepancies between the two strings in a course brings the instrument to life. Bottom line is that it's a great thing to have at your fingertips, even if you think you already know the ropes. - Many thanks Rob.

Thank you, everyone for your kind words. And for those who want to get a copy, just send an email to rob.meldrum@gmail.com with Mandolin Setup in the subject line. Unless I am on the road or out on the water (I am an avid boater) you should receive an email back from me with a link to the PDF in less than a day.

    Cheers!

I'm sorry I waited to get my copy. There are several useful tips in here I hadn't even considered. I can't wait to pick up Ole Mandy and give her the proper dressing down she deserves!

    Thanks Rob!!!
I just got my Rogue RM-100A a couple days ago.
Actually sounds and plays pretty good right out of the box.
I only had to move the bridge about 1mm toward the tailpiece.
I'm going to give it a few weeks to settle in before giving it the full Rob treatment.

Rob, thank you for this wonderful quick reply - looking forward to read in your book ... in these strange times, where playing (and adjusting) mandolins is a very nice and welcome escapism …
