Default Grand Forks, ND mandolin instructors?

So, I know the possibility of me finding a person in the Grand Forks, ND area that gives mandolin lessons is pretty far fetched, but I thought I would still give it a try. So here goes, if you live in the Grand Forks, ND area, send me a private message and give me some prices and availability dates. Thanks!

In the event you don't make contact in your area you might want to consider lessons on skype. I have been taking them for about a year now and while not exactly like being in the same room it is very user friendly. PM me if you need more info

There's at least one guy I know of by the name of Michael Gregory. He teaches at UND and has written a book on Irish mandolin for Mel Bay. He's a real nice guy. I'm not sure if he's on the cafe but I think he is--just not often. PM me with your personal contact info and I'll try to connect you. I don't know if he gives lessons but it's worth a try

Mike is still in Grand Forks and I believe has students. His primary interest is Irish/"Celtic" style and has some great teaching resources for that. It'd be worth getting in touch with him -- if he's not taking on students, then he could probably direct you to someone locally who is.

Hahaha it's funny that you mentioned Mike cause he just sent me a private message about 15 minutes ago. Thanks for the information anyways!

Don't know if it will help or not but you could contact John Andrus from the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota ( small group indeed ) and he might be able to point you in the right direction. I just played with him up in Valley City, ND and that jam is very informal and beginner friendly. They meet once a month. That is only 2 hours away which by western standards is "in the area" It would give you some folks to play with. By the way it was a 3 hour trip one way for me.

Details are here http://bluegrassnd.com/. To contact John go to the "MEMBER BANDS" and you'll see his email address.

That group is also planning a beginner bluegrass gospel weekend the 19th and 20th of April.

try this thread there may be some help there too.
