Default March Mandolin Festival was Terrific!

For anybody who is wondering about the March Mandolin Festival in Concord, NH... I've got to say it's a wonderful event.

Organized and led by David Surette, who is also one of the most versatile and impressive mando-guitar-cittern players I've ever seen, this year it also featured Matt Flinner, Robin Bullock, Will Patton, and special guest Susie Burke. The classes, sessions and performances were first rate, and the facility at the Concord Community Music School is perfect.

The attendees were full spectrum from beginner to advanced, with most in the intermediate camp (like me). Really nice folks across the board. I live in Concord so I didn't get a feel for the after hours jamming, but can tell you that there were some bleary eyes at this morning's program.

Can't say enough good things about this event!

That festival is within my striking distance. I have been thinking about it for a while.

Just curious from your email, how did they determine beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Was it just self identification? I wonder about these things because in a multi-genre festival it can be harder to know what the criteria are and where you fit.

You, yourself, determined this. If you were interested in the subject matter you were welcome in the class. This is in keeping with the spirit of the music school.

Thanks for the positive review, Darryl! It was a great weekend, with lots of folks saying it was the best yet. Thanks to our great teacher/performers: Matt Flinner, Robin Bullock, and Will Patton. It was indeed a jam-packed weekend; I'm still bleary-eyed. Hope to see a bunch of you cafe denizens at Mando Camp North in April, or at Swannanoa Mando/Banjo/Fiddle this summer. Or anywhere else where mando-heads congregate, for that matter.

I totally agree, Darryl. This was my first time attending and I will definitely be back. I'm still trying to recover from staying up 'til all hours of the morning jamming. My only complaint is that the time went by too quickly!
