Mandrian,
As a matter of interest, do you always play sitting down? I'd be interested to hear if you have these breathing concerns when you play standing up.

A good point David !.Most of my playing is done sitting down, mainly at my PC which i use as my main music source. Playing along with CD or radio tunes is no problem,i breath normally. It's when i sit in my living room mainly 'noodling' or playing through a new tune or a difficult part of an old tune to get it right, that's when i'm concentrating so hard on my playing that i forget to breathe correctly.I have found that when i'm practicing standing up,that i have less tendency to get out of breath. Maybe there's a physiological attribute to this problem as well,

Hi David,
Yes, I always play sitting down as I don't play out. My posture is reasonable and I usually use a footstool as I don't use a strap too often.
Thanks for all the interesting replies everyone.

I ran across this thread-I thought it was just me-I have noticed when I am practicing scales, chords,or a new song-I catch myself not breathing-didn't think that much about it-but it is what some people do when they anticipate something-it could be me, concentrating too much, and you do tense up.Maybe try to do what was suggested... hum or talk Been practicing my barre' chords and trying to get the fingering right-with no dead notes-that I will quit breathing-guess I should try to relax a lil' more
Nice to know other people do this, too!

Maybe we should sing so that we remember to need air.
