I haven't gotten to the later segment yet, but the first one 9 minutes in is stunning.

Clearly, John Paul Jones is the most gifted musician from Led Zeppelin.
Thanks for posting this. I wish John Paul Jones was on the Cafe. He could certainly add a new perspective to all of our topics here. He is truly one of the best all around REAL musicians alive today. John is a true talent that we can all learn from.

Maybe JPJ is lurking around here on the Cafe under an assumed name? Anyway, I'd LOVE to see a Cafe interview with him. He does a lot of interviews, and I think this would be a feather in his cap, as it were.
Great stuff indeed. What a nice recording a collection of this style of mando pieces would be. And probably a big surprise to most Zep fans.
He's a natty OT banjo player & jammer too.

Happy Birthday Jonesy!
Thanks, I enjoyed that. I'm not the biggest Zepplin fan, and that's not the sort of music I listen to every day, but it was nice to mellow out to as I was getting ready to fall asleep last night...

I'll preface my comments by saying that I MAY be the biggest Zeppelin fan on the Cafe!
Jeff, thanks so much for starting this thread and posting the pod link!
JPJ is my favorite musician, and also the one I find most inspiring. As someone who strives to be a competent multi-instrumentalist (and who now plays mandolin and bass!) I look upon John Paul Jones as the 'Gold Standard' for what I want to be as a musician.
As Mick said above, Happy Birthday Jonesy!

That lap steel ukelele track is awesome!
JPJ is probably the greatest multi-instrumentalist in rock and roll history, and clearly the best over-all musician in LZ (kinda like Entwhistle is higher in the bass pantheon than Townsend in the guitar...). It always killed me that he was always the overlooked one. Every Zep fan I grew up with was all about Page, Plant and Bonham when, for me, it was all the little things JPJ did that made Zep great instead of just very good
