Hi everybody
What was the first song you ever learned on Mandolin?
In addition to refreshing some sweet old memories this would give beginners like myself good suggestions for songs to learn.
thanks in advance

If it can't be bought it can be built
Bach cello suite No. 1 Prelude arranged for solo violin
Harvest Home was the first song I could play pretty decent but I think that I first learned a simple tune of Bury Me Beneath the Willows

Probably Arkansas Traveler, from Steve Kaufman's Parking Lot Picker, Vol. 1 book. Actually, maybe "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", which was the first thing I ever picked out by ear on mando, and which I had played for years on guitar before I ever picked up a mandolin. "Old Joe Clark" was always my best flat picking tune on the guitar, so I probably learned it pretty early on mando as well.

Can't remember.
Old Joe Clark.
Another good question ------what was the first song you could really play good ? I haven't found it yet !
First song I learned all the way through was Chinatown Jailbreak, by Flatfoot 56. First song I learned that someone on the cafe might recognize, was Whiskey in the Jar.
Ole Joe Clark seems to be a popular one.....def one of my first that I could play the lead.......
Tell Me True (Sarah Jarosz)
The first tune I learned on mandolin was Woody's Rag from the Jack Tottle book
Just started, but my first is The Rising of the Moon.

Ahhhh, learning songs. So that's what this thing is for.
Gunga......Gunga.....Gu-Lunga
I'm pretty sure that the first song I attempted to learn was "My Last Days on Earth" by Bill Monroe back in the mid `80's. It sounded like he was bending strings or something and I couldn't get it, although I figured out some of the double stops. Years later I discovered that he used a different tuning for that song which I've learned as well as the song!
Probably Battle of Evermore. On guitar it was Jesus Just Left Chicago.
