Thread: Fiberglass Cases

    Default Fiberglass Cases

i'm sure fg cases have been discussed here before
but i was curious to see if anyone had experience with bobelocks
and whether the extra length has made it hard to carry on planes

i am also interested in the golden gate fg and eastman fg

what i would really like is the guardian fg case that was discontinued

any input, pros and cons of these mentioned cases would be much appreciated
i am having a hard time making a decision

the real problem is each airline seems to have their own guidelines on that size and enforces it how they feel that day. If you switch airlines you could be good on one and not on the other. I can see where it would be a few inches too much so better play it safe with the Eastman or find a used Guardian. The Pegasas is no problem.

I currently have a new golden gate fiberglass F 5 case. It is ok. I'd give it 3.5 stars. It doesn't have hardly any interior storage, and it doesn't necessarily fit just any old F5, A5, F4, etc.

A friend of mine has a Bobelock Arrow and it is awesome. If I had it to do over, I'd go for one of those. An eastman would be a close second.

I have an Eastman, thin FG shell so Light, close fitting so compact,
a lot of comments on lack of In Case storage, as a trade off,

but easy enough to cope with that with another soft Bag.
I just use a CrownRoyal bag , put spare strings in that, lay it in the case bottom
and put the Mando on top of it.

I have a Bobelock arrow style fiberglass case, an Ameritage rectangular, a beige exterior Hiscox, a Travelite, and numerous stock cases. For my uses, local jams, occasional performances, no airline travel with mandolin, I rank them as follows Favorite to least favorite): Hiscox, Ameritage, Travelite, Bobelock. If I've got to shoulder the case around a festival, I would rank them, Travelite, Hiscox, Bobelock.

The only reason I I don't prefer my Bobelock is lack of internal storage (unless you use the case cover which has lots of storage).

I have a Bobelock Arrow and think it's great. I don't need too much storage, a little box of picks, capo & a tuner, all of which fits in the (small) storage space. I leave a pack of strings and a cleaning cloth under the headstock. I do like that the storage is at the end of the case, not under the neck block, so when I forget the pick in my pocket it's easy to stick it back into the case. The cover does add a bunch of storage if you need to bring music or a notebook, etc. Now, I have not gone on a plane with it, nor have I been on a plane in a long time so I am unsure of size restrictions and the like.

I just wanted to chime in with a little bobelock love...

So, I am about to pull the trigger on the Bobelock Arrow case... for my fiddle! Do y'all know of any good case covers for the arrow?

Know anyone that sews? or is the brand name important? hundred + a pop seems the 'small dog' price.

It comes with a padded travel cover included, and Bobelock offer replacements as spare parts.
