I should show my wife this page. I have four: a JBovier ELS, a crafter, a Greg Bennett, and an Epiphone. The. Crafter does everything but bluegrass. The Bennett is second hand but new to me (only got it yesterday). the Epiphone was a good beginners. And I say it all the time. I love my JBovier.

I've had six times as many cats as I've had mandolins...

    Let's see:

Bought a cheap beginner harmony from Charles Sawtell at the Denver Folklore Center in 1974, Still own the mandolin.
A 1976 Gibson A-12 (Lumpy) Still own the mandolin. LOUD
A 1983 Flatiron 2MB - Birdseye Maple, Still own, my campfire, travelling, lay around the house mandolin. Still own.
A 1917 Gibson A Model - Looks like it walked off the factory floor - Still own.
Michael Kelly F-5 - Electric/Acoustic. Never know when you need to go electric and amp up - Still own.
A 2003 Fisch F-5 - Main performance mando, a monster made by Fischmeister Karel in Prague - still own.
A Johnson Octave 550 - for Celtic music - still own.
A 1916 Gibson A Model - Repaired and traded for a Triple iii
Triple iii A Model - Great custom made by Geoff Burghart Triple iii mandos. Great tone and big leaf maple.

Why would anybody get rid of mandolin? Each mando has a particular purpose and tone quality for the music being played. You'll pry my mando from me when, etc... Dan

Four Gibson A's including a snakehead, one Gibson F2, one Alvarez F5 copy I've forgotten the model, one old mandolin-banjo well made but no info on it, two bowl backs, one was a Fischer, and the other I don't know but both were playable, one MK A+, and one Stonebridge A.

A cheap Romainian A style. Sold it to get a Kentuck 150s. This in turn was sold once I got my Laura Ratcliff A5.

That's it for me. Can only play one at a time anyway.

4 mandolins - still have the first one, one is an ancient bowl back that is not really playable
    1 mandola
5 octaves ( one was killed in a car crash, one- a bardsong - was given away as a gift, and one has been converted to mandola after having the neck broke by UPS ( glued and holding))
2 mandocellos ( had to sell one )
1 cittern ( had to sell)

so currently a total of 9
I play the converted mandola most only because I have mandola fever
I play my weber gallatin octave second most
then my rigle g110 third most

I still pick up the others from time to time
my wife thinks I should I sell a few - but hey - you gotta have a beater (or 3) for festivals right ?
and what if someone drops by without an instrument?
not to mention letting aspiring youth play around with them without worrying about cosmetic damage - hey could be the next Sierra Hull

    It's all good!

Now that in this season of life I've got a good corporate job, I try to help a starving teen/student if I can...but don't get me wrong; I'm as selfish as the next guy...LOL

The real hero around our parts is Glen "Santa" Bailey who routinely gives away instruments to kids(or anyone for that matter) to get them started in music.

Why the "Santa" moniker...because you got it; from Dec-Jan 1, he's one of the Santa fraternity...and he takes it quite seriously. Plays bass in my band The North County Boys...real good guy!
