There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and, after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second. Logan Pearsall Smith, 1865 - 1946

Said in a faux-Italian accent... "Now THAT'S a NICE-a mandoline"!!!
In the world of mandolins there's "A" Loar and "THE" Loar...
I'll take "A" Loar any day!
Its a beauty.
Want badly. It's my birthday next week.
Well ... have you been a good boy this year?
Mine is October 8th. I was going to go to the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Festival and visit the Bluegrass Hall of Fame for my birthday, but, I'd settle for that Loar ...
$195K. It wasn't long ago that I saw $225K on a Loar that was not nearly as pristine. Has the price come down....or is there an adjustment in the market for Loars? Or is this a good buy for someone with access to $195K?
It's the best ad I have ever read!
My birthday is in January, but I promise not to open it until then if someone wants to purchase it & send to me.

Buying a Loar is like buying into the stock market. The best time to do so is when you have the money you don't care if you lost it all or not. If you have the money then the best time would be today. If the Bros. have it on consignment and you got the cash there is a good chance you can get it for $190,000.
The Loar worship must be rubbing off on me, because this is the first time I have found myself thinking 'Hmmm, only 195k.'
That said, I am certain I would be happier with a $25,000 Gilchrist that I could then treat like a mandolin, rather than a $200,000 piece of history that I would feel obliged to treat like a priceless crystal vase.
But since I don't have the price of a down-payment on a Gil, I'll stick with what I have and continue to be a frustrated member of the drooling onlookers.

I think Stan is trying to be realistic with his pricing. Similar examples have sold for nearly that much lately in private and not-so-private transactions.
Just about what my 1906 farmhouse and land is worth..Reckon I could convince the wife to camping out for a long while? guess i'll too keep drooling..
