Thread: Developing right hand fluidity

    Default Developing right hand fluidity

If that makes sense....it probably doesn't, cause I'm having a problem even coming up with words to describe this...

I'm having issues with my right hand keeping time and also a fluid motion. By that I mean that my right hand should be keeping time in a fluid motion, independent of my left hand. I just can't seem to disconnect my right hand. I'm using a metronome, working on simple songs, etc, it just seems that its not clicking with me. Maybe this is a patience issue (most likely) but are there any exercises or tips on how to keep things more consistent?

I had this problem first starting out on mandolin and it got easier over time. After about a year I didn't even think of my hands at all, I just "did" it. Patience and practice my friend!

Have you ever worked with Mike Marshall's Fingerbuster Book? It is mostly right hand exercises, which get progressively more difficult. Even just hitting open strings, the exercises help to develop fluidity.
