    Default New Nava twin point

    Hi,

I am so pleased with my new mandolin that I have to share it! It is a flat top two pointer made by Gary Nava (www.navaguitars.co.uk) The top is red spruce, the back, which has an induced curve, is in cocobolo as are the sides, the neck is carbon reinforced maple and it is fitted with handmade Alessi tuners, wide gold evo frets and Gary's own design of tailpiece which makes string changing a breeze.

Unfotunately, due to weird problems with my soundcard I have no sound sample so you will just have to take my word for the fact that is is outstanding! It is very responsive with a great a dynamic range requiring little effort to get significant volume. The basses ring and the trebles sing and the sustain is incredible (not wonderful for chop chords or bluegrass!). It is the perfect instrument for me as I mainly play Celtic with a little old time and classical for good measure (must try some choro).
Gary is a pleasure to do business with and I cannot recommend him highly enough, have a look at his website for better photos than my amateur efforts.

    Alan and Richard,
Both of those instruments are gorgeous. Richard, is that a walnut back on yours?

    Hi Paul,

Thanks! Yes, back and sides are walnut with walnut burr headstock overlay. Top is Black Sea spruce with ebony binding and black/red/white purfling. Also it sounds great as well.

Can't stop looking at that beauty, Richard. I hope the two of you have many happy years together.
