    Default Some Hoffee Love!

I know we all have different requirements when we're looking for a case. I recently got a used early Hoffee case for my Ellis A. For my needs it's perfect. I think it's the great incarnation of the 20s F4 case. Besides the mando, I can get a package of strings, a bunch of picks a small tuner & a tuning fork and either a strap or a clay humidifier in it. It's substantially smaller and lighter than my Calton, trimmer than a TKL or Superior & lighter. Carbon Fiber, great fit, nice minimal padding....just what I was after....modern vintage. I understand Jeff is no longer making this model, but boy is it sweet. Personally I think he hit a homerun with this one. I'm not planning on driving my car over it or checking it as baggage.....but it's a great case, nonetheless.

Jeff is building my 23 F4 a new crib as we speak. I guess he went to the Calton shape to put more clearance around the tuning buttons and peg head scrolls. Jeff seems to be a really good guy that works hard to please the pickiest of us and protect our precious cargo with a top notch case. I'm really glad he was inovative in offering the thinsolate option to help us deal with the high temps we've been having of late.

My Hoffee arrived yesterday. It's white with green interior. I'm using it right away. Off tonight on a flight to Nashville, and then a week at mandolin camp in North Carolina. I feel much better about transporting my mando now that I know it's as protected as possible.

Thanks Doc. That some nice curves. Jeff contacted me to let me know my case was ready. He got it sent out today. I mentioned this thread and asked him about the change in shape. He said It was mostly for increased storage area. He said it also gave more clearance around the peghead and could be made to fit more shapes and sizes of mandolin. He also told me he changed my under the neck storage to fit the F4's shorter configuration without losing storage area. I decided to go with blue exterior and blue interior with thinsolate insulation. The original Gibson case is the worst I've ever had unlike my 13 A4 case. Now that ones a great case, just a little short on interior padding, but the instrument doesn't flop around in there like my F4 case. Have a safe trip.

Whoa, Doc. That looks like a blast. Just traveling for the fun of it, or is there some larger purpose there? I know some chemical engineers who get to go places like that all the time... That landscape is a photographer's dream.

after reading of de-lamination from dings adversely effecting CF strength,
if I were you I'd get a padded case cover for that case..
still come out ahead of the weight for a shaped wooden case..

do they do a Pre-preg, autoclave cured build or use wet resin and a non Pre Preg carbon cloth ?

Mandroid, not sure about the pre-preg/non-preg but i will probably get a case cover, although the case really won't get bashed around. Any suggestions on case cover? Does anyone else make them? Colorado/Small Dog made my list of poorest customer service in 2011-12, so I won't be buying another product from them.....maybe it will be a custom. Any recommendations?
