Same shot, different cropping. This is a Canon PowerShot SD300.
Where's the rest of it?
It looks more like a mandolin peghead than a camera to me, but what do I know?Originally Posted by

Hard to shoot these without getting your reflection in the tailpiece.
Looks a lot like a mandolin's peghead.Originally Posted by (Scott Tichenor @ Jan. 01 2005, 09:28)

looks like it does a fine job to me, of course with subject matter like that it's hard to go wrong.
Scott, that is a lovely looking instrument. But, great looks doesn't make a great mandolin. Your #233 has to be the finest sounding mandolin I've ever heard, and it was on the "A Place in the Heart" mp3. I can only imagine what is sounds like in person and I bet to add icing on the cake, this Nugget plays great as well. The tone you got out of this mandolin on that song has made me search endlessly for a mandolin with a similar tone.
Now, when are you going to record more with it?

I've not seen a Nugget that was anything short of perfection. I have my life keeper, but will always have a touch of MAS for a Nugget.

Scott, Is that a crack on the treble side or is it a clear pickgaurd?

Don't have a mandolin any where near like that, but we have the same camera!

I believe it is a clear pickguard.

Yes, it has a clear pickguard that is attached to the face of the instrument. Forget what this material is called but it really protects the instrument because I drag my pinkie quite a bit. Also a similar thin strip near the tailpiece where my arm rests on the instrument. Wasn't a very good day to take those pictures of the instrument today. Too cloudy, while the headstock pictures the day before are much better I think.Originally Posted by (ronlane3 @ Jan. 01 2005, 21:02)
Very, very nice workmanship and it seems to me very well photographed by your new camera. Having never seen or hear or played a Nuggett, personally, I can say that the workmanship is superb, flawless it seems. Thanks for sharing this with me (us).
Scott - does that new camera also take pretty good pictures of Shannon or Taffy?

Great job. What is the megapixel rating on this camera? 2.1 MP was topshelf when I purchased my Olympus;that should tell you how old my DC is! Tremendous resolution on those pics. Lp

Scott - great photo's. #Last year at Wintergrass you were toting a small pocket sized camera that seemed to take pretty nice close ups, what kind of camera was that?
I just purchased a Nikon D70 digital camera with the express purpose of being able to take better close-ups and action shots. #Good thing, the camera came with 10 free lessons too!

Scott,
Nice mando and it does sound good. I'm interested in the clear pickguard material and would like to know more about it.
Thanks,
Kevin
"Can I have a little more talent in the monitors please?"
JLP, this is 4 megapixels and I think it's getting pretty good results for only that much. Tonight I tried to really push the envelope in a close-up shot in so-so indoor lighting. Results are below. Not so great but I was about an inch away from the headstock.
Pete, that camera last year was an Exilim by Casio. Unbelievably small. Credit card size. At the time I believe it was the smallest commercial camera you could buy. Outdoors or with very good indoor lighting it was superb, but doesn't come close to this one in my opinion. The Exilim.
Kevin, I'll try to find out the name of the material used for the pickguard. It's also on #159 which was my original Nugget that is now owned by someone in Colorado.
