    Default Thank You button added to all posts

    In order to cut down on clutter posts thanking someone for posting something you find of value we've added a small "Thank You" button to all posts. You can see it right here in the gray area just below this post on the left. Small enough to be out of the way but useful enough when you need it (I think).

    You should be able to add and delete your own Thank You clicks. They do not appear on your own posts, ie., you can't thank yourself. Guests cannot see these.

    This should drastically reduce "my posts per day" number.
    Jim, Mike, Jeff & Jamie; it is now unlikely I'll ever catch any of you in total posts, but...
    We'll see.
    Thanks very much Scott. I think this is a very valuable forum enhancement.

    Thanks - I think. I see now there is also a thanks tally under all avatars. I hope this doesn't lead to another way to claim bragging rights!

    What I really love about this feature is it tells you something about the poster. You can see both how many thanks they've been given -the Thanked value (and in how many posts they were thanked (i.e., provided a useful contribution) and the number of thanks the number of times they've thanked another poster.

    As this is implemented and used, it will help you to see who has been sharing useful information on the Cafe. Now we can begin to discern a measure of quality over quantity! It's also an easier feature to use than the rate a thread, which while under utilized can still be useful as well.

    That's now turned off. Don't need folks boosting their thank you count. Also turned off the dates and once a post hits 11 thank yous it collapses with option to view.

    It looks like the tallies have disappeared from the margin under the avatar...Or am I doing something wrong?

    (edit made after seeing Scott's nearly simultaneous post above)
    Thanks for the clarification and explanation Scott. And, FWIW, I agree.

    I removed it. Seems unnecessary and could lead to count boosting which doesn't accomplish anything.

    Also, in case anyone asks, using this feature will not boost your post count.

    It's a good idea to disable the counts that lead to people hording and collecting "Thank you" votes like awards. I like posting a response much better than hitting a thank you button. It's seems more personal and real were the list of people pushing "TY" is easily overlooked and to sterile for my tastes. Maybe my tastes will change and I'll get used to it but I'm sure this will help you guys in keeping the M/C in order so that's a good thing. It does seem to clutter up my pages since now there is an extra box after every post that gets thanked.

    In the future, I'll be thanking lots of you for your posts. Here's a list of what that thanks might mean (of course, the meaning will be based on the context of your post):

    * Welcome to the Mandolin Cafe! It's great to have you in our community.
    * Congratulations on the new instrument! It sure is a beauty. We'd love to see/hear clips if you are inclined to post them.
    * Beautiful instrument!
    * Beautiful instrument...You are kick-starting my IAS!
    * Good choice! I think you will be very happy with it.
    * Great playing, video, or performance! Hats off for putting yourself out there, and thanks for posting!
    * I agree with this post.
    * I like this post.
    * Thanks, that's very informative and good information.
    * Thank you for sharing this bad news. I appreciate your post, and concur with your sentiment.
    * Well said!

    If you're not quite sure which message I'm sending with the Thanks button, just pick one! ...Thanks.

    I really don't like this, and feels it very seriously degrades the Mandolin Cafe experience.

    I like it. I read the Cafe almost every day. I see a lot of posts that I enjoy, or find funny, or agree with, but I don't post and say so because other than saying "nice post" or whatever I probably don't have anything meaningful to add to the thread. I read another forum that has this feature. It seems to be pretty much harmless and does cut down on the silly emoticon only or "+1" posts that just waste space and nobody really pays attention to anyway.
