Default Glow in the Dark electric mandolin

    Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted anything new since I finished that Flying V mandolin during the winter. Here is a picture of my latest creation. It's a glow in the dark 5-string electric mandolin. It has one major upgrade compared to the V. This one has an adjustable graphite bridge, instead of an unadjustable ebony bridge. It sounds a lot brighter, and has so much more sustain.

Very cool. Now you obviously need one of these to play it:

    It needs glowing fret markers

I'm a big glow in the dark fan, and I love this.

What kind of finish does that!? I think a fiddle would be wonderful that way. Really curious.

I imagine working towards that result was fun!

In his other thread on this he said glow in the dark paint with satin finish over top.

    Hi Stephen,

As per Jamie's response, it's a glow in the dark paint with a satin finish. The glow in the dark paint is very soft, and you need quite the build up in order to have a thick enough base for it to retain a glow for a few minutes. It would look great on a fiddle, but I don't think it would sound great on an acoustic instrument. I have 8 coats of paint on that thing and 3 coats of lacquer.

    Cheers,

    Ian

Have no fear, no radioactive substances were used. You could enjoy this thing for years without getting lymphoma.

I did locate a source of glow in the dark powder, which I could mix with epoxy and use for the dots. Right now, they are pearl.

I cant remember where I got it, but I bought a piece of glow in the dark plastic sheet that could be cut into any shape inlay you like. I've had it for about 4 years now and it still glows in the dark when I kill the lights in my shop. Something like that might work as well.
