Man, that would be awesome for us locals. We have a great new convention center, wonderful restaurants/hotels, accessible airport, and of course, a strong acoustic music heritage and fan base. I think it makes perfect sense!
Move IBMA back to Louisville!!
What The ....
Interesting. Is this a temporary move? The linked article mentioned 2013 to 2015 only. Could this be the beginning of a 'travelling' IBMA awards show every few years? I guess there'd be more details to come.
I agree with'ourgang'. Bring it back to Louisville. There are a lot more bars and restaurants near the Galt House since the new KFC Yum Center opened two years ago. No brainer.
It's gonna be the best IBMA ever! I can stay in my home state!

It'll be even further away from the Museum of Bluegrass in Owensboro.I thought that the aim was to try to get people to visit, not go further away. Get it back to Owensboro or at some point i can see the museum closing (IMHO).The museum should be a focal point, not a distant memory,

The Raleigh News & Observer has confirmed the move this morning.
Woohoo, I might actually get to go to one of these!!

I know of a really great bluegrass museum not too far from Raleigh that has more Bill Monroe and bluegrass stuff than CMHF in Nashville if museums is your reason to come to IBMA. I never thought that was the reason but does make a nice side trip.
Sometimes you have to face the facts. More Bluegrass boys came from NC than any other state in the Union including Kentucky!
I like the idea of a moving IBMA vs. same ole same ole at that same ole place each year.
And don't forget where Bill Monroe got his start on the radio!!!! Asheville, NC! WWNC, Mountain Music Time.
Ah yes Evan the history of bluegrass music runs deep in North Carolina. And let's not forget the greatest bluegrass boy bass player of all times, Ms. Bessie Lee Mauldin was also from North Carolina. Bill loved North Carolina so it is only fitting to bring IBMA here for at least one year.
Why not have a traveling IBMA? Makes sense to me. North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio, Maryland--tons of states have had an impact on Bluegrass, and there's a Bluegrass scene in probably every state of the union (am I right?). It's America's music; let's showcase it in all 50!

I am looking forward to this, living down town Ishould be able to walk to many of the events. It will be an honor for N.C. to host the IBMA.
Bill and Charlie Monroe lived in Raleigh for a couple of years and recorded locally, I have a photo of the house in Five Points where (according to local records) Bill lived for that duration.
This will be a great thing for Raleigh.

Due to current budgetary restrictions the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off -- sorry about the inconvenience.
Quote from Bernie - "I'd like to see it back at Owensboro too but unfortunately its not the most accessible town in the USA!"!. I agree Bernie, but Owensboro does have the Museum of Bluegrass, & it's close enough to Bill Monroe's old home so that folk can visit there as well. For me that's 3 attractions instead of 1,
