    Default Buffed and unbuffed picks

    Hello guys,

This is my first post here on MC I am from Greece and I play the bouzouki. So I would like to ask you which is the difference in sound between unbuffed and buffed acrylic picks like V picks and Gravity.

    Thank you,
    Jason

I've only ever used the buffed version of V-Picks and Gravity Picks. Even buffed, they tend to sound rather scratchy. I can't imagine what the un-buffed ones sound like. My impression is that the players who use the un-buffed ones are the rock guitarists. Can't imagine they would sound very good on a acoustic instrument. Choosing between the V-Picks and the Gravity Picks, I would go with the Gravity. I have used both and find the Gravity Picks much more consistent and smoother.

Well, there was one very well known Greek named Jason - he of the Argonauts. Originally named Diomedes,he was raised by the Centaur Chiron, who changed his name to Jason,

It is my impression that rock guitarists can do all of their sounds without any picks at all, and the rough angle is generated by unbuffed tube preamps rather than picks.

Thanks Ivan. I know about Jason and the Argonauts but it's nice to see others know it as well. My father is from Sparta, my grandmother from Kalamata and I spent my early summers in Greece but never met a Jason. I've only met two other people with my first name so I know what it's like.

Back to the OP's question, I used a V-pick before but it was smooth and clacky but I did like it otherwise.

The metal string is so much harder than a plastic pick, the pick's original finish will last only for minutes. Or maybe I'm not very sensitive.

Great movie from the year I was born. I always go there for my pet's names; Jason, Talos.
