"It is with great joy that I inform that on March 20th, in commemoration of the 149 years of Ernesto Nazareth, a complete website will be launched in hommage to the King of Choro, with: original scores of his complete works, arrangements for melody and chords, texts about each piece, the complete discography, rare imagens, a time line prepared by the biographer Luiz Antonio de Almeida, besides historical clippings, bibliography and weekly blog. The site will be updated throughout the year, as a countdown to Nazareth's 150 years (March 20th 2013). The release concert will be next tuesday, March 20th, at the Instituto Moreira Salles' auditorium (Rio de Janeiro). You're all invited!"

The site is now up. It's in Portuguese but don't let that stop you from looking at the wealth of photos, sheet music, and timelines. Also it's a good use of Google translate.

Thanks, Al, for the update and the link! Great stuff. I guess Brejeiro (and prob other tunes) was transposed for the mandolin. I think we bandolimists play it in G instead of A for the pianists.

This is wonderful. I just started working on my first choro tune, Apanhei te-Cavequino, and am fascinated by Nazareth the man and the composer. Looking forward to perusing the site.

I was just revisiting Apanhei tonight. I love the B section of that tune. Nazareth was an amazing musician, but I don't know what he would think of the way that his stately piano compositions are played today. I have a CD of his piano rolls and they are very much in the style of Scott Joplin. Slow and stately. Beautiful tunes at any speed.
