Lots of work in an F-model 'cello. It'd have to go for multi buxx, I'd think -- although the Kelly F-model octave mandolin was just a bit over $1K. Eastman mandocelli are reasonable because they use their arch-top guitar body as the basis, and they're making quite a few jazz guitars. Just different bracing and neck...

Maybe Gold Tone? They seem to be willing to build "niche" instruments.

Macica quartet (from his web site). I highly doubt that mandocello cost $2000.

It is also interesting that he opted for an oval hole on the MC. So did Monteleone on Marshall's instrument.

Yep thats is sort of what I was thinking. They & others don't seem to have trouble making OM's, bouzoukis, mandos, mandolas etc so. Even a flat top would be cool if a scroll is too much $ to manufacture

Under $2K you'd be lucky to get a carved top A-style... Nev Fahs in New Jersey had one for sale recently for about $1.2k...

Hm. The Santa Barbara cello ad is still coming up for me ...

But if you squint at it just right, you'll see that it has only six strings. It's a guitar on a mandocello body.

When I go to the link I get this:

I think the scam artist and/or seller got scared off by the scrutiny

But it seems to me that the title of this thread is almost an oxymoron Unless you are Bill Gates or Warren Buffet...

OTOH Weber, Morgan Monroe, and Kentucky (in the past) besides Gibson had F-style mandocellos as regular items so there are certainly a few out there. But they won't be cheap. I know person who sold a 1980's F-style Kentucky mandocello last year -- it traded hands for over $5K. The comparable 1980's KM-1000 would usually sell for about $1200.
