Yeah, I saw her last night for the second time (rerun). It was indeed a great performance - so refreshing to see a new generation take the baton and run with it. Sarah has her own voice and style, which is also very refreshing. I'll continue to follow her career. Long may it live.

Was that the Brock OM she was playing?

A very talented picker, and a decent singer and songwriter. I'm going to -- not "troll," but do a bit of devil's advocacy -- and say I'm not a huge fan of long, "atmospheric" instrumentals, despite the virtuosity shown in them. Listened to too many fiddle tunes, I guess, or too many of the "crisper" Grisman Quintet variety. There's an appeal to me in the succinct nature of "two A's, two B's" and then improvisations off the melody.

Definitely a huge reservoir of talent in Ms. Jarosz, and I could hear her bluegrass "roots" as well, but I have to admit my attention wandered during some of the instrumentals.

I like when they break it up a little. Fiddle tunes can get a little trite to me. I like when things get a little unpredictable.

I remember her a the delightful little girl whose mom took to all the local jams. She was clearly better than all us old men but she played with joy, not showy. It was something to see.

She is one of my favorite new artists. Her take on Tom Waits' "Come on up the House" Kills me. Two thumbs up.

I just missed seeing SJ in Wimberly last fall. Besides being a fine musician/instrumentalist...I think Sarah has a very fine voice. Loved her version of 'Colleen Malone' with Tim O'Brien via Youtube.

I watched that re-run last night too, with Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers in the first half. What a treat it was to see her perform. I really like what she's doing. I think the blend of cello, fiddle, and then Sarah on mandolin, OM, guitar or banjo is great.

I think that Sarah has a huge potential as a singer/songwriter. I think she's another Gillian Welch in the making,i certainly hope so.It's so nice to see & hear such diversity in one so young,

I too am a huge Sarah Jarosz fan.
I very much look forward to watching her career unfold. She's an incredible talent.

Just to reinforce my feelings re.Sarah's talents, she appeared on UK TV last night in one of the 'Transatlantic Sessions' programmes filmed last year. She's a huge talent in everything she does & very mature for her age.Her playing & singing are a joy to listen to. She did mention that she's been very influenced by Gillian Welch, something i didn't know when i posted my last post above, but something that seems very apparent when you listen to her,

I think it was the first Grey Fox at the new location when Grisman escorted a young 17 year old phenom to the master's tent...Sarah Jarosz. Underneath the serious welcoming applause there was some general muttering by some pickers that the cosmos isn't fair when a 17 year old rightfully could claim a spot next to Dawg--in the master's tent no less. The time at Berklee has clearly been a blessing for SJ. She is much more mature musically now than then. I wonder how many years it will be before the B-G police are saying "It's purty enough, but it shore ain't no bluegrass."

"I wonder how many years it will be before the B-G police are saying "It's purty enough, but it shore ain't no bluegrass."" They've already been saying that for years. Sarah J is a great musician, and I think she has a wonderful singing voice. My genre of choice is bluegrass both to play and to listen to, but as a comparison, as much as I admire Sierra Hull as a musician, I always find Sarah Jarosz musical projects more mature & interesting.

Not that I can speak for her but I don't think she's particularly trying to be a bluegrass act. The B-G Police have no jurisdiction over her music (not that I think they really have jurisdiction over anything other than acts who want to define themselves as trad grassers).

She is not at Berklee, rather New England Conservatory. Sierra Hull went to Berklee.

I think that Sarah's musical sphere extends way beyond the confines of Bluegrass music.Yes,she can play Bluegrass when she wishes to,but she has an affinity for other musical genres as well.I think that she'd slot right into most forms of 'rural' music. She was right at home in the Transatlantic Sessions progs.in which she's appeared, playing trad. Irish & Scottish Folk music. It's no problem for that young woman at all,

Yep that's the Brock. I was surprised to see one in the classifieds the other day. That's the first I have seen since I learned of Fletcher's wonderful instruments. It didn't last the afternoon. I played that particular OM several times before it was sent off and shot the picture used in the ad. Like all of them, it was a good one!

Thanks for the link to these sets, really great music in both of them!

Yeah, Chip. I was kind of sad to see that my OM's "litter-mate" was already on the classifieds. Somebody got a great instrument, for sure. When do you get yours?

As for Sarah, she's phenomenal. It's just silly for someone to be that talented that young, and then to grow up to be such an accomplished and mature musician, and a very nice girl, to boot. It's good to see someone from the ol' Hill Country "neighborhood" do so well!
