    Default Superior deluxe mandolin cases

Anyone know anything about these cases sold by Elderly? I kinda like the retro look. Latches look pretty sturdy. Anyone have any first hand experience?

Also known as the CS-1520 and made by Saga, the Elderly listing is here. It's a well made reproduction of the original Loar case. My KM-1000 lives in one, it seems very robust and is fairly heavy. Unless you're planning to fly it's a good choice. It's specifically for the F-5 shape.

Saga also make a slightly lower spec alternative.

Saga doesn't make them...Saga imports them from China

Having said that I've seen those cases and they're sturdy and well built. I like Bobelock cases myself, but they don't make a solid mando case. They have a nice double fiddle/mandolin case

OK I'll be more precise. Saga has them made in China. Same difference.

So its not named after the Lake and not made anywhere near it?

superior implies better than inferior, but in brand names it's just a word.

I ordered one recently during that case sale (elderly) and sent it back. It wasn't up to the quality I was hoping for not bad just could have been better. I felt like there was a little too much play in the hinges and the hardware while it looked good was a little cheesy. It did look good but I didn't like it for the money. I do however have an Eastman fiberglass case that while it doesn't have very good storage is well made.

As a Hiscox case owner,i can say that you won't be displeased with the quality or the fit of a Hiscox case - excellent in every way. If you want a more trad.looking case, there are the TKL cases, which again, are excellent in all respects.I have one of those as well. (Hiscox case pic.courtesy of fellow member 'Almeirastrings')

This particular case was designed by Saga. They used a real Lloyd Loar case as the model and had custom tooling made for production. It was quite the project (I talked to guy in charge at length about it) and required a sizable investment. This is not something they just ordered in.

A former student bought a new Loar that came in a case that looked like this. I tried my Daley in it but it wouldn't fit as my Daley was too long. The Daley is the same length as a Gibson F5 so this surprized me. I'm glad I got to try one first. I wonder if this is the same case that came with the Loar?

The Loar version (now out of production), was made by Guardian cases. They did have a very snug fit.
