    Default The eagle has landed

Being impatient I went out to make sure the doorbell worked (just changed the battery) and the Fedex lady walked up with my package!. I can't always claim such good timing, Here's a few pictures before my camera died. I'll try and post some sound clips in the next day or so.

Well, we know someone who's going to be busy for a while. Have fun, that's a nice looking instrument.

Beautiful. Why not give builder credit and say who made it?

..Now I see after blowing it up.

You're right Tom. This was built by Steve Ryder. This is the nicest instrument I've ever owned. The pickups are balanced (no weak E), Absolutely "no noise" in any position including split coil on the neck pickup. The low C is set well, with no flop. The intonation is spot on. The neck is a little thicker than some, but compared to the Roberts, it's smaller and it's just right for me. The finish is outstanding and the sound is warm and full. The sustain is unbelievably rich with overtones. I'll try to add a sound file later tonight.

    Hey John,
I was thinking last night this is like having two beautiful girlfiriends and decided that would just get me in trouble so I just better say I have two beautiful instruments. .....and "no" my JL Smith is not going anywhere.

LOL Jerry. I'm glad to hear that. I've heard that the Ryders are a nice Instrument, and I hope you get alot of enjoyment out of all your instruments. Keep on pickin! Also, I enjoy seeing you on the forum from time to time.

Here's a couple of links to demo the Ryder, as promised. I recorded with a little Tascam DR 03. I use a Fender Twin amp with a Weber California and Canabis Rex speakers. The volume is about 2.5, the treble 5, mids 6, bass 8, and reverb 2. The rythm track on "Unforgettable" was recorded with a Boss RC 20XL Looper and Boss PS 6 Harmonist (set at about 2 on the signal mix). The harmonist pedal just gives it a little bottom. The harmonist works well, but I only use a small bit of the low signal, otherwise it sounds bad when I record a (relatively) clean signal.

This is just running through the basic sounds.

This is Unforgettable (the song title - not this version).

Yes, it really does sound great Jerry.
Very even and well defined tone. Steve's pick-ups are fantastic, aren't they?
Oh, and very nice playing too. Enjoy!

Jon, just get a chair and sit on the front porch!! That's if it's not too cold!! I think that was my next move, but the Fedex lady beat me to it! Keep us posted with pictures and such!
Yes, Ed, I'm very impressed with the pickups. I'd say from my aching shoulders I've not wanted to put it down. I feel really fortunate to have two lovely 5 strings to play.

I wish I could just stay home from work and do that! Here's the thread about it:
