It's a pretty sure bet that it's built in 1988, but how to read it confuses me. Pre-Gibson Flatirons (e.g., my 84 A5-1) have the last two digits of the year as the first digits in the serial number. At some point (i.e., after the Gibson acquisition) the Flatirons went to the Gibson method, whereby the last digit of the serial number and the first digit in the serial number (in that order) show the last two digits of the year. The way your number reads, it's 1988 either way!
