This guitar player seems to be having a lot of fun with a '64 mandocaster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_XXiwssVM4

The guy can play, but it's sort of the Black Oak Arkansas school of facial expressions.

I know there's a video of Sam Bush doing Funk 49 on his mandocaster on YouTube somewhere, but I can't seem to find it!
Also, if I could just spell "guitar baiana" properly, I could find all those really cool Brazilian "little guitar" vids.
Striking out today,
Daniel
Good stuff! This is going to be a fun thread. Eventually someone will put up some Maestro Alex Gregory clips. He shreds mercilessly. Meanwhile, here are the first two for easy access, and some other guy. I like the tone on the one from the guitar store, BTW. You can tell he has played guitar for a while and dialed in a classic tone.

Funny Trousers!
Yeah, the guy can play, but those pants! Psychodellic.

I spent quite a bit of time in Sao Paolo a number of years ago, but was not mando-involved at the time, so I missed the guitara baiana when I was there. I know I loved the music and the people when I was there. I even learned poco portuguese brasiliero while was there!
This guy really does rock!

Maybe I don't understand people, maybe it's just a pet peeve, maybe no one really cares, but I wish people would embed videos, especially in a thread about videos. Just makes more sense, and makes viewing them easier.
Clearly he likes to dress flamboyantly, but that's in keeping with the rock tradition. I'm curious about the doubleneck leaning against the congas in the first one.

My favorite Armandinho Macedo is when he does choro with guitarist Yamandu Costa. I dunno. I love it most when the emando is being a mandolin. Which is especially evident when played along side a guitar.
Not shredding in the orthodox sense I suppose, but if I could play like this I would be satisfied.
Thanks for making the effort. Took a few passes for me too - something a little hinky in the link, ended up cutting the tag out of the embed code. Weird. Well, learning is always a good thing.
I am pleased to learn that there is a guy in Brazil playing like this, apparently making a living at it, at least doing well enough to dress very stylishly. Makes me feel more hopeful for mandolinists everywhere, that there is room in the world for us to play the way we like and people who dig it.
