Thread: Eastwood Mandocaster String Recommendations

    Default Eastwood Mandocaster String Recommendations

Sold my Airline mandola because i wanted the higher sound of an e-mando.

Very impressed with Eastwood, so getting a new Mandocaster soon and wanted to hear what folks are using for gauges. I have cruised the forums and have heard most people replace the strings after purchase. I have also seen recommendations for thicker G strings to avoid floppiness and thicker E strings to compensate for pickup issues.

I play acoustic primarily, so I can be classified as one of those players who tends to have a heavy left hand, often bending notes because I can't find the sweet spot of pressure. I am trying to lighten up, though.

So, can anyone recommend a full set of gauges that would accommodate my preference/weaknesses? Also, does anyone use flat wounds? I know nothing about strings, so just wondering what the benefits would be.

    Thanks!
