Default Favorite 2011 recordings with mandolin:

It's about that time of year again - time to list some of our favorite 2011 recordings that feature mandolin:

    For starters:

    1) "Live at Wigmore Hall" - David Grisman and Martin Taylor
    2) "David Grisman's Folk Jazz Trio"
    3) "Lloyd Loar Mandolins" - Tony Williamson
    4) "A Tribute to Bill Monroe" - Frank Wakefield
    5) "The Unknown Science" - Joy Kills Sorrow

Hoping others' favorites will broaden my horizon.

I'm really enjoying Andy Stadtman's Old Brooklyn. and the Goat Rodeo Sessions from Thile, et. al. -- not quite bluegrass in either case, but really intricate playing in both cases.

Vintage and Unique is a terrific recording. I had to listen a couple of times but then played it every day for a fortnight. His touch is so delicate at times.
