Since the topic of strings is up again, let me know your opinion of these two string sets. I have an F5-G and all I have tried on it is the Gibson Monroe strings. I like them alot but am wondering if I might be missing out by not trying the Bush's. If anyone else has an F5-G it would help to know what you like and why. I play mainly Bluegrass.

I just bought my first f-model and I used the Monroe's and they scream. I havn't tried the Bush set, but I think I might just stick w/ these monroes. Vey loud, very present!

I also have an F5-G and use Monroes but also plan on trying Bush's next. Give it a try and tell me what you think.

I've tried both and came away strongly favoring the Monroes. That said, I have found the J75 D'Addarios sound (and feel) just as good as the Monroes for half the money so you can guess what I'm using now.

Thanks for all the response guys! I think I will try the Bush's next time. It's only about 8.00 and I can always go back to Bill's if it don't work out. I'll post again in about a month and let y'all know what I think.

I have Bushes on my Nashville built Flatiron Festival F (which is the same as an F5G in all but name on peghead)and prefer them to the Monroes.

Bush's of course! When Gibson sent my Bush model back to me they had strung it with Monroe's and they just didn't sound good on my mando. The first thing I did was put Bush's back on it.
    If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???

Well guys I finaly got around to puting the Bush's on. I don't know what to think yet though. First impression was, I didn't like them. However, I only played for about 15 min. after they were on. I know several of you said they get better with age, so I will find out over the next few days I'll post again. Meanwhile, I've ordered a set of the Tomastik starks fron Mandohack

Bush... and the monels arent bad either. They just dont corrode and leave your fingers green and black like the bronzes. IMHO they sound great outta the bag.

Final answer, Monroe's! IMHO the Monroe's sound the absolute best on my F5-G. Now, having said that, if we were compairing the Monroe's to a set of Stark Tomastik's, they beat the Monroe's! Like I have seen on other threads here, I really think it depends on the particular mandolin they are on. I really like the sound of the monroe's but when I'm plugged in, (Fishman bridge pickup & amplifier) I get a lot of string noise. The Tomastik's have the same great sound as the Monroe's but a little less volume. Since I'm amplified, that don't matter. Iknow the Tomastik's are expensive, but my mandolin is a $5000.00 model. At least the new ones are! Oh well everyone says they last longer.....
